A Story We Wanted to Share

A New Life, and a Reminder of Why We Serve

Today I wanted to share the story of one of the newest babies born at Nsawo RCC Medical Centre — a story that is both beautiful and heartbreaking.

This healthy baby girl came into the world safely, in a clean and dignified place, to a mother who is only fifteen years old — herself still a child. As we welcomed her daughter, I found myself reflecting on the many young girls whose futures are cut short by early marriage and teenage pregnancy. Too often we reach the girls already at risk, while others are missed entirely.

Through our Save a Girl programme we distribute menstrual hygiene kits in schools to keep girls learning, confident, and protected — because education is one of the strongest defences against early marriage. Yet some girls leave school far too early and never benefit. Lasting change will only come when families, teachers, health workers, leaders, and communities work together.

This story is also a reminder of what your support makes possible: antenatal care, skilled delivery, postnatal follow-up, and newborn immunisations that give every mother and child the best possible start. While we celebrate this precious new life, we remain committed to a future where every girl can grow, learn, and choose her own path before becoming a mother.
