Recent Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) Medical Camp - November 25, 2025
We are thrilled to share the success of our recent NCD Medical Camp held at Nsawo RCC Health Centre III. Thanks to the generous support of Rotary Club of Clayton Valley / Concord Sunrise, we were able to serve 313 community members with comprehensive health services, including NCD screening, family planning, HIV testing, and for the first time - mental health counselling.
Camp Achievements
A comprehensive health outreach that transformed lives and brought essential medical services directly to our community.
- 313 unique individuals served with various health services
- 137 patients with known hypertension managed
- 23 new cases of hypertension diagnosed
- 17 patients with known diabetes mellitus treated
- 168 people received HIV testing with only 3 new positive cases
- 41 individuals received family planning services
- Mental health counselling introduced for the first time
- Safe delivery of a healthy baby girl during the camp
Mental Health Breakthrough
For the first time in an outreach setting at Nsawo, professional mental health counsellors conducted sessions addressing stress, depression, trauma, family conflict, and suicide-risk assessment.
Community members openly shared their struggles—some for the first time ever. Several individuals expressing suicidal thoughts were immediately supported through one-on-one and family counselling sessions.
The camp revealed a strong link between chronic stress and rising hypertension in the community. As a result, Nsawo RCC HCIII will begin a structured six-week counselling program providing individual therapy, family sessions, trauma counselling, and stress management.

Special International Guests
We were honoured to host Maren and Lars, grandchildren of Tineke and Torsten Jacobsen, who participated actively throughout the camp and brought joy and encouragement to the community. Their presence brought warmth, joy, and excitement to the camp as they actively participated in several activities throughout the day.
At the end of the outreach, the women of Nsawo village prepared a traditional meal, which we shared together. In Buganda we have a light-hearted saying: "Omugenyi bw'otamulisa, tajja kudda." ("If you do not serve a guest food, they will not return to visit.") With this cultural warmth, we are confident that they will surely return to Nsawo village.
